How to Work with the Cancer New Moon (Without Pushing Yourself)

A soft reset with the Cancer new moon

New moons are all about fresh starts, but this one isn’t really a time for action plans or big productivity pushes. Cancer is ruled by the moon itself, so it’s a watery, emotional and very intuitive sign, and this new moon is much more about turning inwards and checking in with how you’re actually feeling.

If you’ve been feeling scattered or sensitive lately, or like you’re carrying more than your fair share, this new moon is a gentle nudge to slow down and come back to yourself for a bit. I’ve been feeling really scattered recently, especially in the run-up to this new moon, because my own moon is in Cancer and I always feel this one strongly! Funnily enough, I’m much more scatty and emotional around the new moon than the full moon, which is most likely down to my hormones.

Heres how i'm working with the new moon

How I’m working with this new moon

  • Journalling without any rules, so I just let whatever’s in my head pour out onto the page without worrying about whether it makes sense.

  • Tracking the moon, which means noticing which zodiac sign it’s in each day and adjusting my pace to match using the amazing Moon Phase Studios journal.

  • Using my Wild Affirmation Cards and other oracle cards to bring me back to what’s true for me when my head gets noisy. One card that’s been coming up for me a lot recently is the boundaries card from the Rebecca Campbell Work Your Light Oracle cards, and it’s had me asking how well I’m sticking to my boundaries with other people, what I will and won’t accept, and how much of my time and myself I’m giving away to others.

  • Asking myself a few gentle questions, like:

    • What do I need more of emotionally?

    • Where can I soften a bit?

    • What’s quietly asking to begin?

Whether you’re neurodivergent, a bit burnt out or just looking for a new way to connect with yourself, this new moon can be a lovely quiet moment to rest and reset, and you don’t need to add anything to your to-do list to make the most of it. Giving yourself permission to slow down and simply be with how you feel is more than enough.

If you’d like something to support your own moon rituals, the Wild Affirmation Cards are available in the Wild Mind Studios shop.
