Walking Into the Light: A Solstice Reflection

Last year we hiked up Glastonbury Tor for the Summer Solstice and to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We didn’t really have a plan other than getting up at 4am, which my husband finds very hard to do!

Two people walking up a grassy stone path towards Glastonbury Tor, surrounded by tall summer grass under a pale blue sky.

It was just the two of us on the winding path up, and we made it to the top just as the sun was rising, to find a load of strangers who ended up feeling like a little community.

People had come from all over, some with drums, some sitting quietly and some who were just curious, and you could feel something in the air even if nobody could quite put it into words. I remember thinking how amazing it was that people from all walks of life could gather in one place and feel the power of the Tor on the longest day of the year.

It was one of those moments where everything felt a bit clearer, like time slowed down just enough for me to notice it, and it reminded me how much I need that kind of stillness, because I always seem to forget until I’m right in the middle of it.

This year we’re spending the Solstice and our wedding anniversary on the Isle of Skye, so we’re swapping the Tor for cliffs and sea mist. I’m not planning any big rituals or making any grand declarations, I just want a bit of quiet, plenty of water and space, and some time to feel grateful for how far we’ve come. That feels like exactly where I’m at right now, a bit softer and slower and more honest with myself about what I need.

Whatever this season is bringing you, whether that’s light or a bit of shadow, I hope you can give yourself space to honour both.

Happy Solstice.

Love,

Amie x
